LOCATED ON TOP OF A ROCK LEDGE, THE MIGHTY HUDSON RIVER THAT BEGINS ITS JOURNEY FROM LAKE TEAR OF THE CLOUDS IN THE UPPER ADIRONDACKS, FUNNELS INTO ITS NARROWEST PART BEFORE CONTINUING ON ITS 315 MILE JOURNEY PAST NEW YORK CITY EMPTYING INTO NEW YORK HARBOR AND BEING GREETED BY THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. MILLION OF GALLONS CASCADE DOWN A RUGGED OUTCROPPING OF ROCKS AND SPILL INTO A NARROW GORGE WITH SUCH FORCE AS TO CREATE NUMEROUS WHIRLPOOLS AND A DANGEROUS CURRENT THAT MAKES SWIMMING IN THIS SPOT IMPOSSIBLE. THIS IS ROCKWELL FALLS AND CAN BE SEEN FROM THE HOPE BRIDGE THAT SEPARATES THE VILLAGES OF LAKE LUZERNE AND HADLEY.
ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE YOU CAN STILL WITNESS THE TURBULENT WATER FROM ROCKWELL FALLS FLOWING PAST THE REMNANTS OF THE OLD PAPER MILL AND THE WHITEWATER RAPIDS OF THE SACANDAGA RIVER EMPTYING INTO THE HUDSON.
